Crochet For Charity | How to Crochet a Heart | Free Pattern

The Bob Kemp Hospice here in Hamilton contacted our local Project Linus co-ordinator to see if she could arrange for local crocheters to make hearts that the hospice could include in monthly care packages they put together for children who have lost a loved one. (More on this below).

I’ve taken Rose Johnston of Threadbare Creations' written outline for an easy crochet heart, and reproduced it in my standard format for crochet patterns. You can download the free PDF of that pattern from here.

In addition, I have recorded a crochet heart video tutorial which you can find on YouTube here:

Huge thank you to Rose Johnston of Threadbare Creations for letting me share her Easy Crochet Heart design. You can find the original instructions for crocheting this heart on Rose’s website. Rose is also a quilter, so any Project Linus Blanketeers who also quilt should definitely take a look at the resources on her web page!

If you live in or near Hamilton and want to make hearts to donate to The Bob Kemp Hospice, then please email Jo Ann Salci at projectlinushamilton@gmail.com - she can arrange with you to pick up the hearts and ensure they get to those who need them. Here's some more information from Jo Ann regarding the crocheted hearts:

Kat from the Bob Kemp Hospice says, "We offer a custom grief kit (called a Burger Box) to kiddos who have experienced the death of someone. This box comes with different legacy gifts, books, resources, etc. Each box gets a copy of The Invisible String book. With this, we include two of the same crochet hearts inside. The tag attached reads a blurb from The Invisible String book, the yarn hearts symbolizing the bond we have with our person."

The ask is for pairs of matching hearts in any colours, 2.5 inches wide, with a string attached to each heart.
