Amigurumi crochet patterns for characters that conjure up thoughts of Winter and the Holiday Season.

Merry the Seamless Snowman

Do you want to crochet a snowman (or snow person)? Well, you can whip up this guy in one piece - no sewing required! This is a great project for using up small amounts of yarn you’re not sure what else to do with.

To complete this pattern, you’ll need:

Worsted weight yarn: in white and two other colours
Size F (3.75mm) crochet hook
9mm black safety eyes
Two buttons or beads for the front of the snowman
Fork or mini pom pom maker
polyester stuffing
Tapestry needle

Most of this pattern is easy: single crochet, increases and decreases but the hat and scarf are fiddly and use techniques like shallow back post stitches which beginners may not be comfortable with.

Santa Claus (Father Christmas)

One of my sons asked me to make a Santa and he loved him so much I thought I’d share! This little guy is small enough to use as an ornament if a lightweight yarn is used.

To complete this pattern, you’ll need:

DK weight yarn in red, black, white and skin tone
Size F (3.75mm) crochet hook
9mm black safety eyes
polyester stuffing
Tapestry needle

This is a medium-level pattern - most of it is easy: single crochet, increases and decreases but it does use some front and back post stitches that beginners might have trouble with.

Chocolate Holiday Kisses

Terrific for busting stash as it only uses up a small amount of yarn, this kiss can be made as a stocking stuffer, teacher gift or hanging ornament.

To complete this pattern you’ll need:

Sport/DK weight yarn in your colour of choice and white.
Size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook
7.5mm black safety eyes
Polyester stuffing
Tapestry needle

This pattern is short and straightforward: single crochet in the round, increases and decreases.

Amigurumi ball

Perfect for absolute beginners, a sphere is a basic shape that you would need to master for many amigurumi designs and it's easy to modify to whip up a quick Christmas ornament.

To complete this pattern you’ll need:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • A 5mm or 4mm crochet hook. In the video that accompanies this pattern I used a 5mm hook, which is the size I recommend for beginners. For the Christmas ornament I used a 4mm hook
  • 9 mm black safety eyes
  • Locking stitch markers
  • Polyester (or other) stuffing
  • Yarn needle

Extremely Merry Snowman

Merry the Snowman was one of my first designs, initially published back in 2016. I made a couple of large size versions for craft fairs and people loved them for Christmas and winter decor, so I finally got around to publishing a pattern so others could make one!

This up-sized member of the snowfolk clan is made from super-soft blanket yarn but constructed in a way that ensures he can stand upright, unsupported. Merry measures about 14 inches tall (excluding pom pom)!

To complete this pattern, you’ll need:

  • Super Bulky yarn in 3 colours. I used less than one skein of Bernat Blanket Sparkle in White Sparkle as the main colour for the body, which gives a perfect frosty-looking snow effect.
  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn in white and two colours similar to the super bulky yarn used for the scarf and hat
  • Size K (6.5mm) **sturdy** crochet hook
  • 15mm black safety eyes
  • Two buttons or beads and a needle threader
  • Large pom pom maker
  • Polyester or other filling. I used about half a 20oz bag of polyester stuffing
  • Yarn needle
  • Locking stitch markers

This pattern is predominantly single crochet but there is one round of shallow back post half double crochet. Merry is worked in the round and seamless, made from continuous rounds starting from the bottom and working upwards. Creating tight fabric using fluffy blanket yarn can be a challenge, so I would recommend this project be tackled by intermediate or experienced crocheters only.
