Guided meditation for grounding - Feel grounded with Jacob's Ladder fabric
Guided meditation for grounding - Feel grounded with Jacob's Ladder fabric. Introducing the first panel, or strip, in the "From Grief to Grow" crochet blanket.
I shared in my last post my reasons for making and designing this blanket. We all experience grief and loss far more frequently than we realize - the loss of a pet, the end of a relationship, missing out on an exciting business opportunity, losing our home and possessions due to fire or flood - we experience tests and challenges all the time.
The work that we need to do in order to grow from the tests we frequently face is hard, and supportive resources can be inaccessible. Not everyone has access to, or can afford, therapy. Not to say that crocheting this blanket can replace therapy provided by a qualified professional! But I want to provide my fellow crocheters practical tips, techniques and scripts, that you can incorporate into your crochet time so that as your fingers create fabric, your mind is also given time and space to heal.
This 3 minute guided meditation for grounding can be used as a standalone exercise, or as an introduction to the longer guided crochet meditations that are included in the blanket bundle for "From Grief to Grow":
Here's what's included in the blanket bundle:
- All the patterns and how-to crochet videos for each of the 10 blanket strips, plus guided meditative exercises you can incorporate into your crochet time. Early bird pricing is now in effect so take advantage of the 17% discount while you can!
- The first panel, or strip, is made using Jacob's Ladder fabric. You will receive the written and charted pattern for this fabric, in downloadable PDF format, via Ravelry. In addition, you will be given access to the how-to crochet video demonstrations for the fabric, and all the materials for a guided meditation for grounding.
- As each of the remaining 9 panels is published, you will have access to all the content produced for that panel, at no extra cost
- The meditative materials for the first panel include grounding tips, a grounding meditation script (in written and video format), as well as information on other grounding activities, including a link to a terrific article by Kathryn Vercillo on grounding practices for crafters.
If you prefer to purchase the Jacob's Ladder patterns and how-to videos on a standalone basis, you can do that too! Head on over to Ravelry and take advantage of the early bird pricing while you can.
To make the Jacob's Ladder fabric, the pattern lists all the materials you will need. If you know you want to make the "From Grief to Grow" blanket, below is how much yarn you will need. I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn which you can order online from Yarnspirations:
- 2 skeins in the colourway Medium Thyme
- 2 skeins in the colourway Buff
- 2 skeins in the colourway Carrot
- 5 skeins in the colourway Cafe Latté
I hope you find all these materials helpful, especially the guided meditation for grounding. As Kathryn writes in her article about grounding practices for crafters, grounding activities aren't just a way to relax or access mindfulness:
"[By practicing grounding] you are not just being present. You are training your body to recognize safety through sensory input. Over time, this can build a more resilient nervous system, increase your window of tolerance, and reduce the physiological impact of chronic stress."
