Therapeutic things to do: Let's Relax and Hook together!
Therapeutic things to do: crochet may not be top of your mind when you think of activities that have therapeutic benefits. But crochet has both physical and mental health benefits and these can be especially powerful when crochet is utilized (in the same way as meditation or yoga) as a method for accessing mindfulness.
I've written about the benefits of crochet and cited many of the studies supporting the thesis that crochet is therapy. Many of the women who have participated in my beta mindful crochet program, The Relaxed Creative, have also shared how much learning to crochet has benefitted them, whether they are busy working Moms, grieving seniors, or stressed and isolated caregivers.
But one of the challenges facing the participants in my program is - "how do I find mindful crochet patterns for projects I want to make?"
This was my primary motivation behind pulling together the Relax and Hook event. I wanted to provide new crocheters with beginner-friendly mindful crochet patterns, but also share these meditative, therapeutic designs with more experienced crocheters, because everyone can benefit from making things that actively help them de-stress over the hectic Fall and Holiday months.
Relax and Hook blog hop
Day 1
September 1st is Day 1 of the "blog hop" part of the event and today's FREE pattern is for a brand new design of mine, The Scarborough Fair Market Bag.
The Scarborough Fair bag is an easy crochet market bag pattern. The bag is created from a piece of rectangular fabric, which in itself is made by crocheting granny clusters in the round. I find there's something about making granny fabric and motifs that is inherently calming and meditative.
So, just click on the button below to add the pattern for The Scarborough Fair Market Bag to your cart. Sign in to your account (or create one) and then use the code MINDFULCROCHET at checkout. The discount only applies from 8.00am (EDT) on September 1st, 2022 to 8:00am (EDT) on September 2nd, 2022.

Consider relieving your stress even further by investing in the Relax and Hook ebook
You may be thinking, "wait, Deanne, if I can get all 30 patterns for free just by joining the blog hop, why would I buy an ebook of patterns?"
Well my lovely crocheting friend, here's SIX reasons why!
- The free PDF download of The Scarborough Fair bag contains the written pattern and some pictures. However, if you decide to purchase the Relax and Hook ebook, which will only be available during September, you will also receive:
- a chart of the pattern; and
- admission to a live online workshop held on September 24th, where I will walk you through how to crochet the Scarborough Fair bag; and
- access to a recording of this workshop so you can watch the replay
- You will receive bonus, exclusive content consisting of at least 7 additional mindful crochet patterns from me
- You get the warm, wonderful feeling that comes from supporting 21 small, independent, women-led businesses
- You receive all 30 Relax and Hook patterns upfront
- You don't have to stress about missing a blog hop day. You can just sit back, relax, and start creating productive calm.
- The ebook is terrific value. The retail value of the crochet patterns in the ebook, plus the bonus content, is about C$211.33. If you grab a copy of the ebook now, while the early bird pricing is in effect, it only costs C$19.99 (equivalent to approximately US$/Eur 15 or GBP 13). That's a saving of 95%!!
All 30 patterns in one place, so you won’t lose them and can miss a blog hop day if you need to. Plus, bonus content not available via the blog hop, you can get started on some lovely relaxing projects right away, support 21 small indie designers - all at a gigantic discount. What's not to like?!
Remember, this ebook will only be available to the general public for the month of September 2022. Once it's gone, it's gone!

I’m not sure what to say except I’m deeply grateful for Hook and Relax on SBKM. The concept behind this website and the kind soul who put all of these awesome patterns into book form. Thank you. You’ll probably never know what this means right now… but maybe you can sense from my word what my fingers can’t say.
Thank you for such beautiful patterns. I get so excited to see each one. Also I like the way this whole event has been organised. Thank you for all the hard work xxx
One of the immediately appreciated features is your mindfully, relaxing way of getting your daily crochet pattern. The website is straightforward, with no flashy or distracting ‘stuff’, and no clicking around through a maze of circles in an effort to actually, in a stress-free manner, get the pattern. Thank you for walking your talk. Blessings
